In times of crisis, whether economic or public health, it is very important that we know how to do a little bit of everything, in order to be more independent and self-sufficient. For a long time we have been making many products at home instead of buying them. Even better is to make these products using our plants. Today we show you the recipe for homemade hand sanitizer that we are making for ourselves in this time of extra care due to coronavirus. At the end of the post you can see the video of this recipe.
The recipe is simple with 3 ingredients only. It is quick to make and very effective in its use.
Required Material
- Blender for aloe vera gel
- Measuring spoons (or containers and a scale)
- Mixing bowl
- Spoon
- Funnel
- Dispenser bottle
Ingredients
- 2/3 cup (125ml) rubbing alcohol
- 1/3 cup (62ml) aloe vera gel*
- 10 drops tea tree essential oil*
*We use tea tree essential oil for being a powerful antibacterial that is easy to find. Other antibacterial essential oils can be used such as thyme, geranium, citronella, eucalyptus globulus or radiata, lavender, pine, peppermint, palmarosa, bergamot, inula odorante, petit grain, basil, clove, marjoram, and cinnamon. These last three are particularly powerful, so a synergy with other essential oils should be made, with a maximum of 2 drops of each of these.
Method
- Extract the gel from aloe vera plant and weigh or use a measuring spoon.
- Blend the gel until it becomes liquid.
- Place the alcohol in a mixing bowl.
- Add the aloe vera gel and mix well.
- Add the essential oil drops and mix well.
- With a funnel, pour the liquid into a dispenser bottle.
- Ready to use!
Shake before use, as aloe vera gel tends to create a deposit at the bottom.
It is not necessary to store in the fridge, as alcohol is a preservative.
